​The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is pleased to bring you the second edition of its national pediatric first aid course, Pediatric First Aid for Caregivers and Teachers (PedFACTs). The PedFACTs course is designed to give caregivers and teachers the education and confidence that they need to care effectively for sick or injured children. Program content was updated to reflect the 2010 American Heart Association Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Guidelines, as well as meet the standards of Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Performance Standards; Guidelines for Early Care and Education Programs, 3rd Edition.

PedFACTs second edition topics include:

  • CPR and Choking Relief for infant, child, and adult
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Instructions and video footage on how to use an AED
  • Medication administration, which includes video footage on how to use a nebulizer, an MDI with spacer, and an epinephrine auto-injector
  • Common chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, and sickle cell anemia
  • Preparedness New to the Second Edition, students and instructors have the ability to choose between two different course formats - Onsite or Hybrid.
  • The 4-hour onsite course is comprised of lecture and skills stations, conducted entirely in the classroom.
  • The hybrid course combines self-directed online modules and an exam, followed by hands-on practice in the classroom.
