Worldwide, about 1 out of every 800 babies is born with Down syndrome, which is caused by the presence of an extra chromosome. Down syndrome can be detected prenatally which can help parents prepare for their special needs child. For all its difficulties, raising a child with Down syndrome can be deeply rewarding.
