Healthy Children Radio: Handling Grief and Loss (Audio)
Article Body
The effects of losing a loved one may be significant for adults, but for children, this grief may be unbearable. Children, in particular, will need the love and support of their teachers and parents to cope with their loss and reach constructive grief resolution. David J. Schonfeld, MD, FAAP, comes on the show to help guide us through the difficult process of helping a child deal with grief and loss.
Dr. Schonfeld is a developmental-behavioral pediatrician and the Thelma and Jack Rubinstein Professor of Pediatrics, director of the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, and director of the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Disaster Preparedness Advisory Council.
