Children need to be educated about the dangers of alcohol in order to make safe decisions. As parents you have far more influence than you may think and talking honestly about this topic can have a real impact. Take advantage of “teachable moments” to have a conversation with your kids when issues related to alcohol come up on TV, at the movies, in the news, etc. Age matters, but it is never too young to start.
As parents, it is also important to be mindful of the example you set for your kids. Show them that there are many ways to have fun without drinking. Happy occasions and special events don't have to include alcohol!
