Granting Healthy Smiles and Connecting Kids with Dental Homes

CATCH implementation grant recipient Alejandro Clavier, M.D., FAAP, a pediatrician at Esperanza Health Centers in Chicago, started a project called Sonrisas Saludables/Healthy Smiles in response to the high rate of cavities and lack of dental home linkage among the underserved population in his community.

This video shows how the community responded to free oral health education and fluoride varnishes offered at Esperanza Health Centers' Annual Health Fair Extravaganza in 2013. Dr. Clavier was able to accomplish this by collaborating with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Hispanic Student Dental Association.

The Esperanza Health Centers is a non-profit organization that treats patients regardless of their ability to pay.
